All-Woman Transcontinental Air Race Scrapbook

Millie Berglund (Shinn) was born in 1918 in Big Sandy, Montana. After being turned down for the Women’s Air Corps due to her height, she was accepted to the Civilian Pilot Training Program and worked for the Civilian Aeronautics Administration during World War II. Millie married Shirl Shinn of Billings, Montana in 1946. After World War II, Millie worked for the Civilian Air Patrol Search and Rescue. The Shinn family moved to Spokane, Washington in 1961. A longtime member of the Intermountain Section of the Ninety-Nines, Inc., Shinn participated in the All Women’s Transcontinental Air Race, once in 1961 and once in 1964. Millie Shinn passed away in 2011.
