Description
Jumpers Chet and Virgil Derry stand in jump gear next to Albert Davies in front of a Stinson Reliant aircraft. The jumpers wear jump suits, helmet with mask, and the main and emergency parachutes. The photograph was taken during smokejumping experiments in Winthrop, Washington in 1939. The caption to the photograph reads "Okanogan National Forest, Washington - Chet Derry (jumper), Albert Davies, (Forest Officer), and Bus Derry (jumper)." This image is a mounted print used for reference by the National Archives.
