Description

Inspection of the wing development of a 10 week old male Canada goose at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, 1952. According to the annual report from Turnbull that year, the photo shows how both the primaries and the secondaries, feathers that are necessary for flight, are nearly developed. This inspection was part of a project between Turnbull and Dr. Charles F. Yocom at The Department of Zoology at Washington State College to investigate growth factors and progress in immature Canada geese.
