Photo showing a raft duck trap at Middle Pine Creek Lake at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge. From the annual report from Turnbull that year, it's noted that this raft duck trap was constructed and placed in Middle Pine Creek Lake that year to capture a number of baldpate (American Wigeon) for banding. The trap was 4 x 10 with two tunnel entrances as can be seen on the photo, and was constructed by refuge staff with assistance of Mr. Henry A. Hansen, Washington State Waterfowl Biologist. Unfortunately very few of these birds were caught in the trap according to the report. The report also points out that by lowering the water levels of this lake this year, the refuge had created an opportunity for waterfowl to reach more aquatic plants to eat, since these plants were closer to the surface.
