Sam, 72, died July 14, 1983, in Sweet Home, Oregon. He was born December 28, 1910 and was a member of the Mennonite Church. Sam was drafted into Civilian Public Service in 1942 from Sweet Home and his occupation at that time was listed as Logger. Sam jumped at Missoula during the 1944 and 1945 seasons getting 10 practice and three fire jumps in 1944 and three practice and two fire jumps in 1945. Sam left CPS in 1945 and returned to logging where he lost a leg in a 1962 accident.
