Obituary
Hal died September 10, 2007, in Redmond, Oregon. He started working for the Forest Service at age 16, working as a lookout and firefighter before joining the smokejumpers. He rookied in 1947 at Winthrop before joining the Navy. Hal served on the USS Buck during the Korean War. After the war he returned to Winthrop where he jumped 1952-63 before transferring to Redmond when that base opened in 1964. He was foreman at Redmond until his retirement in 1978.
