Description

Crowd behind the grandstand of Recreation Park in Spokane, Washington, heading to the first baseball game of the season of the Northwestern League between the Spokane Indians and the Victoria Bees on April 14, 1914. Local newspapers write of record crowds showing up to the event. The Spokane Chronicle, writes the day after the game that more than 8000 people attended the opening game. The back of the grandstand is on the left side of the photos. On the right side is a small box office selling tickets with a sign reading “GRANDSTAND AND BLEACHER TICKETS”. The crowd is crossing over the street car tracks visible in the foreground of the photo. This is likely the intersection between present day Boone and Regal.
