Description
Frank and Virgil Derry hold a pair of jump pants while standing in front of a Stinson Reliant aircraft. The pants appear very large due in part to the fact that they are unzipped. The photograph was taken during smokejumping experiments in Winthrop, Washington in 1939. A helmet with a facemask rests on the ground. The caption on the photograph reads "Okanogan National Forest - The Forest Service (khaki) timber jumper's suit pants unzippered." This image is a mounted print used for reference by the National Archives.
