Abstract

This article provides a history of the area now encompassed by the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Spokane County from accounts by the Pacific Fur Company in 1812 through 1960, by which time the refuge had removed many of the structures built by settlers in the 19th and early-20th century. Specific individuals mentioned include Ross Cox, Cyrus Turnbull, Daniel F. Percival, and Isaac J. Ballinger.
