Description

This document provides a brief history of the smokejumping program as of 1946. It begins with events leading up to the uses of aircraft prior to the formal establishments of smokejumping in 1940. From there, the report describes several significant events in the history of smokejumping in the Region One of the United States Forest Service. The report ends with a summary of smokejumper activity in 1955 and yearly statistics on wildland fire fighting activity for Region One starting in 1908.
