Ray died December 19, 2016, in Birmingham, Alabama, from an injury received in a fall just before returning to Redmond, Oregon while on a fire assignment. He graduated from Brawley Union High School (CA) and served in the 82nd Airborne. Ray jumped at Redmond from 1995 through the 2016 season.
