Obituary
Weir, 94, of Elkhart, Indiana, died March 11, 2017. He was born in Elkhart May 19, 1922. Weir was a member of the Mennonite Church and drafted into the Civilian Public Service and was among the first CPS men to train as smokejumpers. He jumped the 1943-44 seasons at Missoula. After the war he returned to Elkhart where he was a supervisor for Elkhart Products (copper fittings) where he retired after 30 years. Weir was an avid gunsmith and hunter still hunting into his 90s. He owned and operated trap shooting ranges for more than 58 years. He and his wife, Rosa, celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary prior to his death.
