Obituary

Bill, 76, died April 23, 2002, from leukemia. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, September 2, 1934. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1955 and enlisted in the Coast Guard where he became a pilot doing search and rescue operations. Bill obtained his master's from Washington State (1963) and his Ph.D. from Duke in 1966. He taught at Virginia Polytechnic before moving to the University of Arizona teaching in the Ecology Department. Bill studied birds and tiny mammals and had many significant publications in professional journals. He was a regular runner and backpacker often the oldest in his division in annual races. Bill jumped at Missoula 1953-55.
