Obituary
Boyd, 88, died August 9, 2021, in Olympia, Washington. He was born in August 1932 in Bothell, Washington, where he grew up and was a star halfback on the football teams at Bothell H.S. and Everett Community College. Boyd served in the Army and later jumped at Missoula in 1953. After earning a Forestry degree from Washington State University, he worked for the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources. In the mid-1960s Boyd organized the DNR’s tree seed program and later created the DNR’s Tree Improvement Program. He traveled to China, Argentina, Chile, and Australia to study their forestry practices. Boyd was a longtime runner, and once hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim twice in three days.
