Vern, 82, died September 14, 2023. He was born December 1, 1940, at the family ranch in Palo Cedro, CA. Vern attended grammar school in Palo Cedro and graduated from Enterprise H.S. in 1958. He started his career with the USFS in 1958 at the Minersville Guard Station on the Trinity National Forest. He jumped at Redding 1962, 66-70. Vern served in the U.S. Army 1963-64, assigned to the 82nd Airborne in Germany. When he returned from the Army, he resumed his career with the USFS at the Redding base with subsequent appointments on the San Bernardino, Klamath and Stanislaus national forests where he retired in 1998 as forest road maintenance supervisor. Vern was a lover of vintage muscle cars and restored many over the years, including projects with each of his sons.
