Jim Lawson died in Cottage Grove, Oregon, on May 13, 2002, of cancer at the age of 55. He graduated from high school in Oklahoma and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. Jim graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1974. He worked for the Forest Service at the Umpqua Ranger District for 26 years before retiring as FMO in 2001.
