Charles died July 23, 1962, in northern Laos when his Air America Helio Courier was shot down. He survived the crash but died on the trail as he attempted to walk out. He jumped at Grangeville 1956 and at Missoula 1957 and had served three years in the Marine Corps. Charles was from New Jersey where his father was a school Principal.
