Obituary
Marty, 53, died on January 3, 1998, when caught in an avalanche while snowmobiling southeast of Hamilton, MT. He was 53 at the time and employed by the Forest Service after retiring from teaching. Marty was born February 23, 1944, in Warren, Ohio. He was a high school wrestler and football player in Rock Island, Illinois. He was raised in Rock Island and worked for his dad's construction business throughout his schooling. Marty went to Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, on a football scholarship and graduated in 1966 with his bachelor's degree. He began teaching in Idaho and moved to Corvallis (MT) H.S. in 1968. During his 28-year career at Corvallis H.S., he coached wrestling from 1968-71 and football from 1970-80 leading the team to the State Championship in 1976, the only football championship in the school's history. Marty jumped at Missoula 1965-66, 68-71, 87-89, and at Grangeville 1967.
