George died April 23, 2008, at his home in Butte. He earned his private pilot license when he was 16. George worked as a flight instructor and smokejumper pilot in Missoula and West Yellowstone. He served 32 years as corporate pilot for the Montana Power Co., retiring as chief pilot in 2000. Following his retirement, he worked as a pilot for Coyote Aviation.
