Photograph from a series held by the National Archives on the first African American Airborne unit, the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, also known as the Triple Nickle. This photograph was scanned at the National Archives reading room at College Park, Maryland. The description at the National Archives reads: "Paratroopers don protective clothing foe a peaceful mission. Members of the 555th Parachute Infantry prepare for a flight by AAF Troop Carrier Command planes to a forest fire area in the timber lands of the northwest. Planes are based at Walla Walla AAF; the paratroops at nearby Pendleton AAF, Oregon."
