Description

Opening ceremonies of the 1914 baseball season of the Northwestern League on April 14th, 1914 at Recreation Park in Spokane, Washington. This first game of the season was between the Spokane Indians and the Victoria Bees. At the center of the photo under a covered canopy is Chief Joe Adams dressed up in a Native American costume holding the American flag and a banner with the text “Pennant 1914” signaling the opening of the season. A boy, also in a Native American costume, is helping to raise the flags up the flag pole above the canopy. Some Spokane Indians players can be seen to the left of the canopy and some Victoria Bee’s players can be seen to the right. On the left side of the canopy, the fifth person from the right is Mike Lynch, the manger of the Spokane Indians team.
