Albert N. Boucher. Al had a long career with the Forest Service. Starting in 1948, he worked around the Smokejumper unit, then stationed at the Redwood Ranger Station in Cave Junction. The next year, 1949, he began as a rookie Smokejumper. With time off for military service, Al rose to squad leader and to foreman of the unit that became stationed at the Siskiyou Smokejumper Base at the Illinois Valley Airport. He moved on in 1964 to assist in the opening of the new Redmond Air Center as the Smokejumper foreman. Subsequent assignments elevated Al to Region Four Fire Dispatch and to the Fire Staff on the Mt. Hood National Forest.
The Al Boucher Collection includes pictures from his time at the Siskiyou Smokejumper Base as well as a scrapbook that spans his entire career.
