Abstract
Artist talk by Skylar Miller
Description
Artist Statement
Skylar Miller’s BFA exhibition explored her love of the art of making art as well as her passion for representing her community in her work. She shares the road that it took to get her to EWU, the meanings behind her five final pieces, and the processes that it took to create them. Much of her work is based in fiber and textiles, pushing her to explore the origins of this work and the history of women’s ties to fiber. She also looks into craftivism, discussing how knitting has been used to do more than create functional objects. Skylar explores how her community made her who she is today, and how she can show that in her large-scale works. Color and thread are a large part of her work, and she explains how that thread ties her to her works and her practice, and will continue to guide her in future works.
