In this letter to his Sallie, Evans wishes Sallie a merry Christmas and that he spent part of Christmas playing checkers with Dr. Hess and hunting for sea shells. He also writes that he is reading two books, The Spectator and Byron's Poetical Works and encourages Sallie to continue with the "book learning."
