Abstract
This project will look at the historical development of environmental challenges in Cheney, Washington, and how human activity has shaped the region’s ecological landscape from the late nineteenth century to the present. As settlement expanded across eastern Washington, native prairie and wetland ecosystems were increasingly converted into farmland, leading to soil degradation, habitat loss, and significant changes to local water systems. The project combines historical analysis and environmental research to show how past decisions continue to influence present-day ecological conditions.
