Abstract
This research project analyzes the Marcos Administrations and how both presidents contributed to corruption within the Filipino Government. This is a documents-based study that focuses on who the Marcoses are, how their administrations foster nationalism within the country, and how people have reacted during each presidency. The purpose of this project is to analyze the effects of nationalism, explain its emotional pull on the public, and assess whether different forms of patriotism can justify the atrocities committed in its name. This project explores contemporary examples of how nationalism affects a country's government structure, the impact on citizens' attitudes toward those in power, and the lengths one would go to justify the atrocities committed in the name of the country. This project serves as a way to be more involved in the Philippines’ political climate, as well as to incorporate nationalism into present-day issues. This presentation specifically analyzing the events during Ferdinand Marcos Sr’s administration that affect the Philippines today. The end goal is to compare and contrast two different presidential terms, both from the Marcos family, highlight the situations that pushed citizens to vote for them, and the psychological effects of modern nationalism on Filipino voters. Keywords: Philippines, Filipino politics, Marcos Administration, corruption, nationalism, nostalgia, patriotism.
