Abstract

This paper examines how the language around dating and relationships changes within various demographic groups (age, gender, sexuality), and what changes within those demographics, and how people define certain situations and terms. I look at language changes, for example, how people define "hook-ups ", and to see where and how people are defining things like dating, relationships, and situationships. I used surveys to gather the data used to dissect the language use and change. The language we use to talk about sex, dating, and relationships has an undercurrent of violence, and in order to change our languge use for the better, we need to understand the current language use.
