Abstract
While participating in the Biology department’s inaugural study abroad trip to Montserrat, I was exposed to the flora, fauna, and landscapes of this small, highly biodiverse island in the Caribbean. As a detail-oriented lover of nature, I took field notes and photographs while on the island and turned these observations into paintings. I created a collection of watercolor paintings and film photography to showcase my student experience and highlight Montserrat’s unique ecosystems and wildlife. From the tiny whistling frogs to the Montserrat Oriole, I wanted to express deep appreciation for life on this beautiful island. I created this art to share with the Eastern community and to inspire students to pursue their creativity along with scientific research. A synergy between art and science, I hope to express the transformative qualities of this study abroad experience and share a piece of Montserrat with my local community.
