Abstract
For my project here, I chose to implement some of Monet’s painting techniques into my painting. I mostly painted in a wet-on-wet technique using oil with a stiff boar bristle brush and used a lot of paint to achieve visible texture. In my mind, I had this Idea of painting something that feels nostalgic to me, and I figured that impressionist style would be perfect to invoke nostalgic feelings. Impressionists use soft, vibrant colors, and the subjects in their paintings always seem blurry, distant, and like they are “fading” away. I wanted to convey a feeling of trying to remember your childhood and only being able to imagine blurry pictures. But the important part is not how good you remember it; it’s the feeling of warmth that you get when you remember it, and you feel it when looking at the work of impressionists, and this is what I also tried achieving in my personal work.
