Photograph from a series held by the National Archives on the first African American Airborne unit, the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, also known as the Triple Nickle. This image was scanned at the National Archives reading room in College Park, Maryland. It is an external photograph of a C-47 airplane with logos printed on the side including an image of a fire fly, the words "Fire Fly," and the logo for the Army Air Force Troop Carrier Command. The photograph was likely taken at Pendleton, Oregon.
