Description
A smokejumper in full gear exits a jump tower at Camp Menard in the Ninemile ranger district of Lolo National Forest in Montana. Camp Menard served as a training site for Civilian Public Service draftees during World War II.
The photograph appears in A Pictorial History of Smokejumping with the caption that begins, "Jumper exiting tower door in excellent erect position with arms folded to prevent arms from tangling his shoulderlines."
The photograph was taken for the Untied States Forest Service and is part of the Phil Stanley Collection. A print may also be found in the Untied States Forest Service Region 1 Archives Collection, Mss 889 at the University of Montana Mansfield Library.
