Abstract
“The Reality of Time” is an electronic music composition created and inspired by my grandfather's reel-to-reel tapes, which were recorded while serving in the Vietnam War, and sent to my grandmother in lieu of letters. These tapes, representing artifacts of oral history, hold a special meaning in our modern world, as they are a unique lens to the past when everyone was not surrounded by today's technology, which allows you to communicate instantaneously. This composition tries to encapsulate the long-distance relationships that many families had to endure during times of war, as well as showcasing the unseen feelings of a person currently enduring these circumstances.
