Obituary

George, 39-year resident of Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, passed away at his home on September 12, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born January 24, 1926, in Detroit Michigan. George was an avid Boy Scout in his youth and teen years achieving the rank of Star Scout. George left school after finishing the 10 grade and enlisted in the Army Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1945. George returned to his home in Detroit, Michigan, where he completed his high school requirements and then received a BS Degree from Michigan State University and an MA Degree in Education from Wayne State University. George taught for 20 years as an elementary and high school biology teacher, first in Detroit, Michigan and then Storrs, Connecticut, where he lived from 1963 to 1974. His lasting legacy, however, began in 1974 when the Saffian family moved to Twin Mountain, New Hampshire where George purchased the fledgling Ammonoosuc Campground. For the next 22 years, he and his family worked tirelessly to transform a 13 acre wheat field into a beautifully forested 130 site campground. George sold his campground in 1995 and retired but continued to be active in community and Church affairs. George jumped the 1946 season at Missoula getting seven training and six fire jumps.
